Weekend

Our good friend (and Ben's Godfather) arrived late Friday night. We have had a busy weekend so far! We spent the day at Ichetucknee State Park on Saturday and we went to Cedar Key today.

Ichetucknee State Park is a 45 minute drive from our house. While there, we hiked and swam in the Ichetucknee Springs. The springs were cold, but pretty amazing. The water temperature stays at 72 degrees all year and is crystal clear.

Carl and Ben at Headspring, which is the start of the Ichetucknee Springs. Water from a series of underground caves flows up through this spring to start the Ichetucknee River. I think that 9 other springs eventually flow into this river. Many people tube or canoe down this river and stop and swim at the various springs along the way. That sounded pretty fun, but we'll have to wait for a visit from one of Ben's grandmas!

Another view of Headspring. It got pretty deep when we got out to the middle, but it was hard to tell from the shore because the water was so clear.
Carl and John in Blue Hole Springs. The part of the water that looks more blue is the actual spring. When we tried to swim into the hole, the force of the water coming out of the spring would push us back to the surface. Scuba divers come here to enter underwater caves. Click on previous link for some amazing pics of the caves.
Ben had the BEST time watching us swim. Or maybe it was the fun of holding onto the chain link fence that was making him giggle. . . .

We saw 3 snakes lying in the tree right next to the entrance to this spring. Watching out for snakes in the water definitely took my mind off of how cold it was!
