Blizzard 2011

What a winter to move back to the Midwest! A blizzard rolled through here on Tuesday night, dumping 12-13 inches of snow on us. Fortunately, we never lost power and were safe inside our warm house, so we kind of felt like kids again! That is until morning, when Carl spent hours and hours digging us out of the snow . The whole neighborhood was out at the same time and we talked to some who we haven't seen since fall! Everyone helped each other out, and we were thankful that those who had snowblowers helped bail the rest of us out. Especially after our best shovel broke about 3 hours into it!

Ben was a big help with his snow scraper!

Carl built a tunnel through a drift in our front yard and both kids had fun going through it. Our fearless Ella lead Ben through the first time!

The snow covered the swings on our swingset, so we had to dig them out for the kids. They also had fun sliding into a pile of snow!

The drifts almost made it to the top of our fence.

Being Florida natives, I wasn't sure how well the kids would do in the snow this first year. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to faze them. We were outside most of the morning, and then again later in the afternoon. We had fun walking down the street through the "snow tunnels".

Carl's cousin, Melissa, came over to join in the fun! Jeff also obliged Ben by crawling through the snow tunnel without his snow gear on. Ben has been in awe of Jeff since watching him play football for BHS this fall!
While there were definitely times when we were going absolutely stir crazy, our snow days were also filled with lots of comfort food, hot cocoa, and cuddling in front of the fireplace. The windchill this morning was -3 degrees and the kids I are were reading books in our bed. Both kids had their heads on my shoulder and Ben says "Mommy, can we take a picture of this to send to Nana? I want her to see how lovely this is!" Seriously, where does this kid come up with this stuff? I have to write it down to look back on when he's a teenager who wants nothing to do with me!!

As much as we miss those beautiful kids we don't miss that snow. Can't imagine that or the cold. They sure were enjoying themselves. Are you sure that they really are Ben and Ella - they are so bundled up, it's hard to tell. Lots of hugs and kisses to you all. Love ya, Auntie Myrna

Love seeing the pictures of you all - Ben and Ella sure look like they are enjoying the snow (maybe not the cold but for sure the snow). Like Myrna says we miss everyone but not the snow or super cold. Can't imagine it anymore. Stay warm and enjoy that hot cocoa and the "lovely" cuddle time. lots of love, auntie marcia
