The kids and I just spent a week in Perdido Key with my mom, Aunt Paula, and cousin, Maddie. The kids loved the beach and pool. Ben had fun building houses in the sand and then searching for pipes (sticks) to put on top. Ella would have preferred to spend her entire vacation in the water, but when she wasn't swimming in the pool or ocean, she played with a bucket of water and 2 watering cans.

Ben loved playing in the surf, especially the first few days when the waves were higher. He would get completely flattened by one and then stand up laughing, waiting for the next one. He also convinced my mom to take him deeper in the water so that he could "jump" the waves. On family vacations, this was always my Dad's job while mom preferred to read her book on a lounge chair. She's a little lady and tends to get beaten up by the waves! Apparently, it is a lot harder to say no to grandchildren and she and Ben spent a lot of time getting knocked around in the surf! Later in the week, the ocean was calmer and I told Ben and this was great news because the waves wouldn't be as high. He started laughing and said, "But Nana LOVES getting knocked over by the waves!"

Maddie and Ella
Ella also had fun swimming in the ocean. She liked floating over the waves and wanted to be very independent.

Ella was quite the pill on this trip! It probably didn't help that we started off the trip with a completely overtired girl. She slept less an a hour on our 17 hour drive. She was a total mama's girl - wouldn't even let anyone else fill her bucket with water! And she threw temper tantrums like a I have never seen each time we made her leave the pool! She is better now that we are back home, but I hope this isn't a glimpse into the terrible 2's!

Maddie gave Ben a few swimming lessons in the pool. He can't wait for his summer lessons to start tomorrow! He improved a lot this week. He can now float on his back, bob to the side, push off the wall and glide, and swim back to the side after jumping in without his floaties on.
Ben would usually request to take a little rest in the afternoons. Then he would rally and swim for a couple more hours!
