Since December, Ben has had an obsession with Tide. He loves to carry around his empty bottles and pretend to pour the detergent into the cap - just like he sees me do when I do laundry! His obsession has reached a whole new level these past 2 days. We were doing several loads of laundry yesterday morning, and he kept insisting that I hold him up so he could get a better look at the washing machine. I quickly grew tired of this game, so I pulled up our step ladder and figured he could watch for a few minutes until he became bored. Two hours later, Ben was still standing there "washing" clothes. I tried multiple times to get him to come down, to which he replied a very dramatic "No, No, No, No, No"! The first thing he said when he woke up from his nap was "Tide" and he spent the rest of the afternoon in there as well as a good portion of today. I can't lie, it has been kind of nice to have the washing machine babysit while I get stuff done!
I wish I could post a video of him doing his thing because it is hilarious to watch. He gives pretty drawn out commentary on washing while he unscrews the cap and pretends to pour detergent into the washer. He talks a lot about the buttons on the machines and lays his head down so he can hear the water churning. He also lines the Tide bottles up just so, leans back and studies them, and then rearranges them. The stool is also conveniently located next to the light switch and dead bolt, so he intermittently plays with those while doing laundry. I forgot that he has been locking the door, so I was briefly locked out the the house this morning when I went to the garage to retrieve my cell phone from the car. I heard him lock the door after I left and a great sense of panic came over me as I imagined having to run to a neighbor's house in my pajamas without shoes in the frigid 30 degree weather while he was standing on a stool alone in our house for who knows how long while we waited for Carl to come to our rescue. Fortunately, I had left my keys in the car and I was able to let myself back in!
Right now he is excitedly screaming Tide in the background as he sees the pictures of his beloved Tide on the computer screen!

It will be interesting to see how long this phase lasts... maybe he will be ready to help fold the clothes soon too! We are excited to join you in Florida in about a week. Hopefully the warm weather will return quickly!

Ben has officially joined the cousins in weird obsessions! We know they all have something they get very passionate about ie:Connor & trains, Andrew & batteries/monitors, Audrey & microphones. It's good to see it runs in the family! :)
I sense a little obsessive trait coming out! Pottery Barn Kids makes an adorable red washer and dryer-Ben would love it! Tuley got one for Christmas and if I cannot find her socks or undies, they are normally in her washer-Ben might try real water in it though-that would be a mess! When is your sono? I think anyday-right?
This is hilarious - well soon you can put this "passion" to good use and have him do all the laundry.
TWM (saraandhuck) - in case you weren't sure who Sara L was... :)
